About Barton
Obits
The “Bartons of The South” have met in the United States every year since 1935 with the exception of the war years 1942–1945, as an informal family reunion with potluck supper led by a Chief of Clan since 1962.
Our milestones
Our organization
Barton Obits preserves and shares obituaries and memorial records for Barton families, as part of the broader Barton family history community.
Family reunion roots
The “Bartons of The South” gather each year for fellowship and a potluck supper, continuing a tradition that began in 1935 and paused only during 1942–1945.
Annual meetings
The society meets annually according to its By-Laws, elects officers, and includes a religious service as part of each annual meeting.
Founded in 1979
Barton Obits builds on decades of Barton family research, including work begun by the Barton Historical Society in 1979 and expanded through the Barton Historical & Genealogical Society.
Southern Barton lineages
The society is often associated with “Southern Bartons,” the “South Carolina Bartons,” and families included in The Barton Book. However, membership is open to ALL Barton families, not just the founding families.

South Carolina Bartons
